Mountain Lifestyle
Living in WNC
There is just something about mountain living that calls to many people. Perhaps it’s the pleasant weather in the summer, or the plethora of outdoor activities to enjoy on a daily basis. Perhaps it’s the breathtaking views of stately mountains against colorful skies. Or perhaps it’s the appeal of living in a quiet area while still enjoying rich local arts, culture, and entertainment not too far from your home.
No matter the reason, the Western North Carolina lifestyle is alluring to people from all over the nation. And we wanted to give you just a glimpse of what living in the mountains looks like.

The Seasons are Spectacular
In mountain towns like Cullowhee, the weather only reaches about 85 degrees at the peak of summer, and even then the weather feels nicer due to the higher altitude. Should you want to cool off from the heat by swimming in a local river, the waters are truly refreshing and cool.
Fall brings out the vibrant shades of reds, yellows, and oranges in the leaves, transforming the trees on the mountains into works of art that visitors (and residents, as well) have photographed for decades.
Winter bathes the already quiet areas of the mountains into a tranquil wintery stillness when fresh powder blankets the ground. Snowfalls create the perfect moments for enjoying your favorite book by the fire or sipping coffee at the window as you watch one-of-a-kind snowflakes dance from the skies.
And as for spring, the mountains burst into color with new leaves, budding flowers, and the melodies of birds carried over the rolling hills and valleys.

There is Plenty to Explore
Regardless of the season, there is always something to do. Winter activities include snow skiing, indoor concerts, and gathering with friends, while summer activities might include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, or rafting down the Tuckasegee River.
There is no shortage of fun in the mountains of western North Carolina, whether that be exploring our small towns, or retreating to the great outdoors in the nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
